The rental units are alarm-protected, mostly video-monitored and frost-protected, often also heated. This makes the boxes safe, clean and dry. Many Self-storage houses also offer great additional services for your customers, such as the postal or goods receipt on site, drinks at the reception, an accessory shop and a lot more.
Restrictions also apply to the stored products: Foodstuffs that can spoil, creatures or combustible substances are not permitted. Of course, the vendors cannot control this; after all, the preservation of the privacy is a big issue. Although there is usually video surveillance and closing services, the employees are not allowed to enter the compartments. But the administrators take care of course if problems occur. In acute emergencies, the police or fire brigade would have to open the rooms.
If you want to protect your things from possibly occurring odors, it should pack accordingly. The vendors promise to provide ventilation, but the quality of the ventilation systems is very different.
Do you need all those stuff?
When it becomes too tight at home, storage rooms provide a modern solution. Studies show that each of us has around 25,000 items and that at least one-third of them are needed for their daily needs. Not everyone wants to be so radical and separate forever. Minimalism is considered to be chic, but it is not so much beyond the purely visual concept. Flexibility is everything. Of course, the hiring of additional space is not cheap but still much cheaper than to buy things new, because one had to give away the old ones sometime.
